Product Background

MUC16, a transmembrane mucin encoded by the MUC16 gene, is characterized by a large extracellular domain containing multiple SEA (sea urchin sperm protein, enterokinase, agrin) modules and heavily O-glycosylated tandem repeats, which contribute to its protective and lubricating functions. The extracellular portion, shed as CA125, is a well-established biomarker, while the transmembrane anchor and cytoplasmic tail mediate cell signaling via interactions with ERM (ezrin, radixin, moesin) proteins, linking to the cytoskeleton.
