Introduction to CD160

Drug targets a biomolecule that can directly bind to drugs and then react. Generally, the target refers to a protein, which is related to the cause of disease. The focus of the target began with focusing on tumors and then began to spread to various fields. Introduction to CD160 protein is a common target in medicine.
CD160, or BY55, a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) -anchored membrane protein molecule, is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. Its protein has a molecular weight of about 27 kDa, and it is a glycoprotein. It initially appears on the surface of NK cells and is expressed in the GPI form or transmembrane form. Meanwhile, it is also expressed on the surface of some cells with cytotoxic activity, such as CD8 + T cells in the small intestinal epithelium. Some B cells in CLL can express CD160, which enhances cell survival and activation, leading to IL-6 production. Scientists believe that CD160 acts as a co-stimulatory or co-inhibitory function by interacting with different ligands.

Function of Target CD160

CD160 plays a key regulatory role in the organism's immune system, especially during the activation of NK cells and T cells. CD160 can act as a co-inhibitory molecule and improve the efficiency of inhibiting T cell activation, thus maintaining the immune system stability of the body.
CD160 can bind to various ligands, such as HVEM, and LIGHT, to regulate the activity and function of immune cells through the interaction between the ligands.
CD160 is not normal in a body with tumors and autoimmune diseases. In tumors, CD160 is highly expressed, and scientists, by blocking the CD160 signaling pathway, increase the activity of tumor-specific T cells, which can further inhibit tumor growth and metastasis.

Gene Pathway of Target CD160

The signaling pathways in which CD160 participates mainly include the CD160 / HVEM / LIGHT / BTLA pathway. This pathway can play a bidirectional role in regulating T cell activation, both in promoting T cell activation and also in inhibiting T cell activation.
When CD160 is combined with HVEM, it can inhibit the activation of T cells, thus preventing the excessive recognition of immune cells.
Meanwhile, CD160 can also regulate the activity and function of immune cells through its interaction with other ligands, such as LIGHT. This mechanism that can regulate both sides gives CD160 an irreplaceable role in the immune system.
